April meeting recap
Our April meeting focused on the emerging topic of cyber liability, with Jen McDonald and Nick Ownings presenting. Nick provided insight on the vulnerabilities of computer systems and online servers. He also discussed past breaches and cyber-attacks, noting the trend in recent year toward greater sophistication and capabilities of hacking data and accessing private information. Jen discussed the general response thus far from insurance carriers. The industry has yet to broadly adopt standard language or coverages for this growing exposure. Coverages available currently include breach notification coverage, breach liability coverage, extra expense coverage, and cyber extortion coverage. As we continue to move forward in this digital age, cyber liability exposures and coverage will continue to be a concern.

What’s your opinion?
The Institutes/CPCU Society is considering adding a continuing education component to the CPCU designation. They are still in the research stage of their analysis and they are seeking your input. As a CPCU Society member, you should receive an email with a link to a survey on this subject. The survey is fairly short but is an important opportunity to voice your opinion about this possible change. The deadline to complete the survey is 4/24/15.
